BEYOND LAYERS

“Beyond Layers” is the story of interlayered self-culture, the inter-civilizational journey that existed in Anatolia, which became closer as it stayed away.

The awareness and sensitivity developed by life in a multinational and multicultural city is the beginning of this journey.

Clay, which was the first material in which human beings expressed their feelings in the first known ages, is nature’s gift to humanity.

As a matter of fact With the desire to feel their own culture among the differences, all the civilization layers that have passed through land of ancient Anatolia sometimes with surprise, often with admiration, were kneaded and shaped with clay.

Clay is such a gift that from centuries ago to today, since humanity existed, its daily life, its way of life compatible with nature, the ability of gods and goddesses to match their strengths with powerful animals inspired by nature, their journey from nomadic to settled life, their respect for nature while collecting hunters, the adventure of turning craft into art, the fertility of anatolian lands, interstate political treaties, justice, the value of women,  The existence of the mother earth Kybele by changing its name on its journey between layers starting from the early ages, the remnants of the first great imperial Hittites in history from the Chalcolithic phase to the neolithic phase, the heritage of Phrygia, the treasures of the Roman empires, the traces of the Great Seljuk, Anatolian Seljuk State and the Ottoman Empire, made possible to walk trough traces sometimes formal and sometimes symbolic artifacts.

Today, a closer look at the morphological changes of pottery, idols, figurines, symbols of gods, goddesses, jewellery, altars and ritons, as well as pottery and amphoras bearing the traces of different ages emerging from the layers, makes it possible to get lost in the search for meaning of symbols in the empt, mess of the amphoras and asking a new question? ; “When today’s civilization is a layer of the past, what will curious eyes from the future see about us?”

“Beyond Layers” is the first exhibition of Pınar Güzelgün Hangün’s series of answers to this question. It is the expression of the changing, trapped emotions and sometimes the disappearances between the layers with ceramic material.
